1978

George S. Springsteen, founder of Commonwealth Capital
Corp. opens its doors in Pennsylvania.

Commonwealth structured leases with investors and corporations in the ATM, technology hardware, facilities and real estate arenas as an indirect lessor. George’s focus soon turned solely to the emerging technology due to the profitability within that sector.

George was one of the original members of the CDLA (Computer Dealers Lessors Association) which over time evolved into ELFA (the Equipment Leasing & Finance Association). Commonwealth has been a member in good standing with ELFA for more than 35 years.

1987

Commonwealth recognized as a national sponsor by a major regional brokerage firm offering private placement offerings in the equipment leasing investment sector. Expansion provides Commonwealth with opportunity to raise equity quicker and more efficiently for investment in technology leases.

1997

Kimberly Springsteen-Abbott joins Commonwealth as Executive Vice President. Kim launches Commonwealth Capital Securities Corp. which expands Commonwealth’s ability to raise equity nationally.

Henry Abbott joins Commonwealth as Senior Vice President. Hank is responsible for the oversight of lease acquisitions, lease relations, and portfolio management.

2007

After the loss of George Springsteen in 2006, Kim becomes Chief Executive Officer and sole shareholder of Commonwealth. Commonwealth pursues and obtains certification as a woman-owned business from The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, the largest certifier of women-owned businesses in the US. This certification expands Commonwealth’s capacity to offer US corporations the ability to satisfy both Tier-1 and Tier-2 diversity spending goals. Commonwealth’s leasing team evolves to direct origination of leases.

2012

Commonwealth achieves 40 Master Lease Agreements with major US corporations, expanding its knowledge of multiple industry challenges and pain points within each industry sector. Best practices are established for each sector and Commonwealth expands its footprint nationally.

2017

Gryphon Diversity and Inclusion Program achieves registration of more than 300 suppliers. Kim accepted as a Forum representative of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.

Commonwealth and Kim individually receive numerous recognitions for achievements in support of women in business, diversity initiatives and within the leasing industry.

2020

Commonwealth continues expansion of its supplier diversity and inclusion program, advancing diversity as a business imperative and relying on the robust application of accepted and emerging best practices.
